Rocco is a final year DPhil candidate at the Oxford Department of International Development. His research interests are focussed broadly on labour, development and behavioural economics. He has designed and led research projects in South Africa and (more recently) Bangladesh which have used a wide variety of methods – including work on a nationally representative survey, field experiments, qualitative studies, and behavioural lab experiments. His previous experience includes consulting work for the International Labour Organisation (2022) and the World Bank (2017-2018), a researcher role at the Southern African Labour and Development Research Unit (2016-2020), and a visiting researcher appointment at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies in Hamburg (2018). He has also worked with the South African government on the targeting approach used for dispensing cash grants as a relief measure during the initial COVID-19 lockdowns. He received an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Oxford, and a BA (Hons) in Economic History and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Cape Town.
