I am an applied microeconomist working at the intersection of labour, public and health economics. I am Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and Tutorial Fellow in Economics at Balliol College, University of Oxford, and a Research Affiliate at CEPR, IZA and RFBerlin. I direct the Centre for Research on Outreach and Access (CROA) and co-direct the Centre for Quantitative Diversity Studies (CQDS). I am also the Department's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead.
My research agenda has two strands. The first follows the parent–child relationship through three phases: the effects of childbirth on parents, intergenerational transmission and mobility over the life course, and the consequences of parental death. The second examines how policy, labour market dynamics and education shape inequalities in the labour market and in well-being more broadly.
I communicate research to broader audiences through policy briefs (e.g. VoxEU and IZA World of Labor) and direct engagement with business and policymakers (e.g. via Oxford Elevate). My work has been featured in international media, including the New York Times and The Observer/Guardian.
