Jonathan researchers alternative ownership forms; he co-edited the OUP Handbook of Mutual, Co-operative, and Co-owned Business. Jonathan is Managing Editor of the International Review of Applied Economics.

He is currently researching whether sovereign wealth funds wishing to promote the Sustainable Development Goals, and net zero, might invest in such companies, which tend to have a greater focus on social and environmental sustainability than companies owned privately or by external shareholders.
