Oxford’s Economics & Management (E&M) undergraduate degree has been ranked the best in the UK in prestigious university rankings.
The degree, taught jointly by the University of Oxford’s Department of Economics and Saïd Business School, was ranked first in the UK in both the recently published 2027 Guardian University Guide and Complete University Guide. It also holds the top position in the most recent Times Higher Education subject ranking.
One of Oxford’s most competitive undergraduate courses, Economics & Management brings together two complementary disciplines, giving students the opportunity to explore how economies, markets and organisations function and how resources are allocated.
Professor Chris Bowdler, Director of Undergraduate Studies in Economics, said:
“The Department is delighted to see Economics at Oxford recognised in this way. Our undergraduate courses bring together excellent teaching from colleagues across the University, and this recognition reflects the commitment of everyone involved to creating a challenging and rewarding academic experience.”
Professor Johannes Abeler, Head of the Department of Economics, highlighted the distinctive combination of the two disciplines:
“The combination of economics and management asks students to think carefully about how firms operate, how markets work, and how both shape the wider economy. Our students learn to question assumptions and assess evidence, drawing on research in both. It is a pleasure to see this recognition of the care and commitment our colleagues put into the degree, and the energy and curiosity our students bring to it.”
The rankings recognise the continued strength of the Economics & Management programme and the contributions of students, faculty and staff across the Department of Economics, Saïd Business School and the wider University.
Professor Mette Morsing, Interim Dean at Saïd Business School, added: "Many warm congratulations on this ranking to all the staff and faculty who make this course the best in the UK year after year. It is the result of hard work and commitment across Oxford University – and of course our fabulous students."
