The Department is delighted to share that John Vickers has received the 2026 Distinguished Fellow Award from the Industrial Organization Society. The award is given annually in recognition of excellence in research, education and leadership in the field of industrial organisation.

Founded in the United States in 1972, the Industrial Organization Society promotes research on competition, regulation, antitrust policy and market power.

This is a fitting recognition of John’s long-standing contribution to the field, particularly through work on competition and regulation that has helped shape both academic understanding and public policy.

John is Professor of Economics and Warden of All Souls College. He was Drummond Professor of Political Economy, and his career has included roles as Chief Economist at the Bank of England, member of the Monetary Policy Committee, head of the Office of Fair Trading, and Chair of the Independent Commission on Banking. His research interests focus primarily on competition and regulation.

The Industrial Organization Society announced the Distinguished Fellow Award at its annual conference, which this year was held in Boston.
