Congratulations to Nobel Laureate Philippe Aghion

We warmly congratulate Professor Philippe Aghion, awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences alongside Joel Mokyr and Peter Howitt, for his pioneering work on innovation, growth, and technological change.

A former Official Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford (1992–1996), Professor Aghion’s research is part of a long and distinguished Oxford tradition of economic scholarship. His ideas on endogenous growth theory have profoundly shaped how economists and policymakers understand the forces that drive prosperity and progress. During his time at Oxford, Philippe stimulated an impressive group of students to undertake research on endogenous growth, several of whom have gone on to become highly successful researchers in this field.

Commenting on the award, Professor Paul Klemperer noted:

"Philippe was one of the liveliest members of the department, always a fountain of ideas. He could easily have been awarded the prize many years ago. We are delighted he has won it now."

We are proud that Oxford was part of Professor Aghion’s academic journey and extend our warmest congratulations on this much-deserved recognition of his lasting contributions to the field.
