Oxford ranked No. 1 in the UK for Economics

The University of Oxford has once again been ranked the best university in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2026. We are especially proud that Economics at Oxford is ranked No. 1 nationally, recognising the strength of our teaching, research, and student outcomes across the Department.

In the subject league tables, Oxford’s performance in Economics reflects outstanding results across the full range of measures used by The Guardian, including student satisfaction with teaching and feedback, continuation, and graduate career outcomes.

Three of our undergraduate degrees contributed to the University of Oxford’s No. 1 ranking for Economics.

  • BA (Hons) Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE) (with optional foundation year)
  • BA (Hons) Economics & Management
  • BA (Hons) Economics & History

These courses combine rigorous training in economics with interdisciplinary study, supported by Oxford’s distinctive tutorial system. Graduates go on to leading roles in academia, policy, business, and beyond.

“This recognition is a reflection of the dedication of colleagues across the Department and the hard work of our students. We are delighted to see Economics at Oxford recognised in this way, and remain committed to delivering an outstanding education in the field.” Christopher Bowdler, Associate Head of Undergraduate Studies.
