The Department of Economics is delighted to congratulate Beata Javorcik, who will take up her role in September 2019
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that Beata Javorcik will be its new Chief Economist.
Beata Javorcik is currently Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford and will take leave from the Department of Economics to take up her role in September 2019. She will serve a three year term and succeed current Chief Economist Professor Sergei Guriev.
As Chief Economist, Professor Javorcik will advise the Bank’s President and Senior Management Team and will provide thought leadership inside and outside of the EBRD on economic and policy issues at the heart of the EBRD regions of operation.
Professor Javorcik has previous experience in policy work. Before taking up her position at Oxford, she spent several years working at the World Bank in Washington DC. She was also involved in the review of the transition concept, which guides the EBRD’s operations, and participated in EBRD Annual Meetings and launches of the Transition Report, the Bank’s flagship publication.
Professor Javorcik said “I am honoured to be offered the Chief Economist position at the EBRD. I am looking forward to contributing to the EBRD’s mission of fostering sustainable and inclusive growth in its countries of operation.”
EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti confirming the appointment said ‘I know that Beata Javorcik will make a huge contribution to the Bank’s work. As Chief Economist, she will help to drive the positive impact that the EBRD makes in the countries where it invests in improving lives.’
