Randomised Trials 1.01

With Associate Professor Richard Bulbulia, CTSU, Oxford Population Health

Reliable assessment of the effectiveness of almost all medical interventions requires randomised trials. Proper randomisation and appropriate analyses eliminates bias, and if a trial is sufficiently large, random error (also known as 'the play of chance') becomes negligible.

This session, part of the 2026 Research Jamboree, will explore both the 'WHY' and 'HOW' of large randomised trials. The aim is to provide those interested in the economic evaluation of medical interventions some familiarity with key concepts and, hopefully, the ability to have sensible conversations with clinical trialists.
