UNIQ Summer Schools welcome prospective students to Oxford

Several Oxford University UNIQ Summer Schools have taken place over the past few months, giving prospective students the opportunity to experience undergraduate life at Oxford.

UNIQ summer schools are designed for high-achieving A-Level students aged 17 and 18 from diverse backgrounds. The programme gives participants an insight into studying at the University and encourages students who might not otherwise have considered Oxford to explore the possibility of applying.

Two of the summer schools supported by the Department of Economics were:

  • Economics & Management (E&M) UNIQ Summer School - Around 45 students took part in the three-day programme, held from 29 June to 1 July. The programme featured 13 sessions, including interactive activities designed to encourage discussion and collaborative learning. Topics included Inequality: Income, Wealth, and Opportunity, economic growth, economic history and Understanding Markets, alongside a session on the Oxford admissions process. Students also toured the Social Sciences Library and visited a number of college Open Days.
  • Politics, Philosophy & Economics (PPE) UNIQ Summer School - Around 60 students attended the three-day summer school, held from 28 to 30 July. The programme included six lectures covering topics such as Utilitarianism and Equality, Algorithms and Institutions, The Economics of Chocolate and homelessness. Students also attended an admissions session, toured the Social Sciences Library and visited the Pitt Rivers Museum.

Christopher Bowdler, Director of Undergraduate Studies, said:

“The Department of Economics is delighted to have been able to support the UNIQ summer schools in PPE and Economics and Management. Our academics and professional services staff were able to provide insights into all aspects of undergraduate study in Oxford and were extremely impressed by the engagement and contributions of the students who participated”
