The Industrial Policy Group - an empirical research lab

Nathan Lane and a partner from the University of British Columbia have started The Industrial Policy Group, an empirical research lab that aims to deliver core empirical research surrounding industrial policy, and make industrial policy a serious object of economic study. The group hopes to bridge the gulf between research and policy practice by producing high-quality, data-driven research, and will soon release a dataset.

Nathan has also recently held informal meetings with a number of national and international policymakers; including Gaurav Nayyar, World Bank Lead Economist, EFI Chief Economist’s Office on industrial policy data and measuring policy; with members from Biden Administration's Council for Economic Advisors on US industrial policy and the CHIPS/IRA acts; and with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) at the IEA-METI-RIETI Conference on New Thinking on Industrial Policy on Japan's new industrial policy programme.
