The Department of Economics is delighted to congratulate Stephen Broadberry on being named President-elect of the Economic History Association (EHA), a prestigious international recognition of his contribution to the field of economic history.
Stephen took up the position of President-elect at the EHA’s recent annual conference, held in St Louis from 18–20 September. He will go on to serve as President during the 2027–28 academic year.
The appointment is particularly notable as the EHA President is usually based in the United States, with scholars from outside America only occasionally taking up the role.
The Economic History Association supports research and teaching in economic history and brings together scholars interested in understanding the economic dimensions of the past.
Stephen's research focuses on the development of the world economy over the very long run, particularly the historical roots of modern economic growth and differences in living standards across countries.
