Sanjaya Lall Visiting Professorship

The Department of Economics is proud to host two eminent international economists – Professor Joseph Stiglitz from Columbia University and Professor Raj Chetty from Harvard University – in April and May of 2023. These visits are generously funded by the Sanjaya Lall Memorial Fund. 

Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz, recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences 2001, will be delivering a lecture titled "Freedom and Liberty: Perspectives from 21st Century Economics" on 3rd May at Oxford's Mathematical Institute. In addition Professor Stiglitz will also be participating in a panel event "Green Industrial Policy: Saving the World without a Trade War" together with Professor Lord Stern,  Michael Liebreich and Ed Miliband on 27th April.

Professor Raj Chetty, the William A. Ackman Professor of Economics at Harvard University, will be delivering a lecture titled "Creating Equality of Opportunity: New Insights from Big Data" on 18th May. Professor Chetty will also be participating in a panel event titled "Inequality and Social Mobility in the 21st Century: New Challenges and Opportunities" together with Professor Stiglitz and Anneliese Dodds (Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, and Chair of the Labour Party) on 22nd May.
