MPhil Graduate Jakov Milatovic Wins Presidential Election

Oxford University Economics graduate Jakov Milatovic, who graduated with an MPhil in Economics in 2013, has been elected as the new President of Montenegro.

The former Economy Minister won with approximately 60% of the vote, defeating the longest-serving elected leader in Europe, Milo Djukanovic. Djukanovic, who had previously served four terms as prime minister and two as president, conceded defeat to Milatovic, who campaigned on pledges to root out corruption and organised crime.

Milatovic's victory has raised hopes across the Balkans for a new era in Montenegrin politics. He has vowed to get the country into the European Union before the end of his five-year term as president.
