Graduate videos offer valuable guidance to second year students

Every year the department holds an Options Fair to help 2nd year undergraduate students chose their study options for the final year of their degrees. This year the Options Fair has gone online and to help students with their choices the department has, for the first time, shared videos with advice and reflections from MPhil and DPhil students.

The videos are intended to help students with their choices and also to encourage them to think about continuing on to graduate studies. The department is keen to emphasise to students that graduate study is open to all and that the choices they make at this stage will help to prepare them for higher level work. This, in turn, will enhance their applications and improve their chances of being admitted.

Chris Bowdler, Director of Undergraduate Studies said:

“The Department of Economics is delighted to have been able to include as part of its virtual options fair for second year undergraduates a series of interviews with current graduate students in which our graduates describe their path through study and research in Economics and provide advice to undergraduate students on how to prepare a strong application for graduate study. The interviews highlight the breadth and variety of research being studied and conducted by our student body, and cover areas of interest for current undergraduates ranging from economic theory to applied policy work applicable to the UK and a range of countries around the world.”
