Congratulations to Binta Zahra Diop, who has been awarded the 2024 Edgeworth prize for an outstanding DPhil thesis in Economics for her thesis titled "Public Interventions and Labor Allocation”.
Binta's research aims to understand migration and location choices of people under constraints, both positive (driven by central policy choices) and normative (from fairness principles). The award winning thesis examines the critical issue of resource allocation, focusing on how it impacts farmers' migration decisions and the optimisation of labour distribution in national healthcare systems. The study is divided into three pivotal chapters, each addressing a unique aspect of resource allocation.
