Auction raises funds for Ukraine aid effort

Humanitarian aid in Ukraine will benefit from around £3,500 raised through an auction by students and staff in the Department of Economics.

The proceeds of the auction will be given to the Kyiv School of Economics Foundation’s fundraising campaign to help buy first aid kits for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Paramedic Association.

The auction was organised by Paula Onuchic, Nuffield Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics, and Associate Professor Séverine Toussaert.

Associate Professor Alex Teytelboym designed the auction, and DPhil student Itzhak Rasooly was auctioneer, with the prizes being donated before the event by staff and students. The prizes on offer included some with a personal touch, such as an Armadillo drawing class at the home of Professor Abi Adams-Prassl, and 20 seats to play a simultaneous chess exhibition with Professor Miguel Ballester, who once played in a similar exhibition with chess grandmaster, and former World Chess Champion, Gary Kasparov.

Paula commented: ‘I am very proud of the amount raised. Thank you to everyone who supported, helped to organise the event, and made donations.’
