Alex Teytelboym wins Vice Chancellor Award

The Department of Economics is delighted to announce that Alex Teytelboym has been Highly Commended in the Policy Engagement category for the 2020 Vice-Chancellor’s Innovation Awards for his project Annie™️ MOORE: Increasing Employment of Resettled Refugees using Machine Learning and Optimisation.

Together with researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts and Lund University in Sweden, Alex Teytelboym developed pioneering software that helps an American resettlement agency (HIAS) place resettled refugee to the local communities.  Annie™️ maximises the employment opportunities and ensures the best integration outcomes for refugees.

The team behind Refugees.AI hopes that other refugee agencies around the world adopt Annie™️ in order to improve the welfare of refugees and local communities.
