Gavin Cameron 1969-2007
It is with immense sadness that we report the passing of one of the Editorial Fellows of Oxonomics, Dr Gavin Cameron, after a long and courageous
battle with illness.
Gavin was a source of inspiration to us all, and provided a role model
for all teachers and researchers in economics. In more recent times, even
when periods of ill health took him away from work, his research output
was enviable, including several journal articles, working papers and three
book chapters. This is one of the many testaments to his immense intellect
and commitment to economics, a subject which he clearly loved, and for
which he so effectively passed on his enthusiasm.
He was hugely supportive of Oxonomics, and as an Editorial Fellow gave
freely of his time, providing advice and support, and encouraging others
(particularly from the Economics Faculty) to do the same. His extensive
experience as an Editor of the Oxford Bullein of Economics and Statistics,
and his attention to detail, were invaluable, and his tact and kindness meant
that he was always the person to turn to if there were problems.
Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Gavin’s wife Julia, and sister Birgit.
Appointment of new editors
Oxonomics, the graduate student-run economics journal based in the
Department of Economics and the Said Business School, plans to appoint
two new student editors this term. The work is varied and challenging,
but should not be too time-consuming, perhaps taking up about three days
of work per term on average. The current editors have carried out tasks
ranging from discussing typefaces with printers to interviewing Nobel
prizewinners, as well as lots of proofreading and editing of articles.
Successful applicants will gain a broader overview of their subject,
many interesting academic contacts, and hands-on experience of the
editing process.
For more details, we strongly encourage anyone interested in working for the journal to get
in touch with us at oxonomics@economics.ox.ac.uk.

The central
aim of Oxonomics is to publish articles that engage critically and originally

of their research alongside established academics and policymakers. We
strive to disseminate this cutting-edge economics research in a form readable
to as wide an audience as possible.
The first issue of Oxonomics was published in November 2006,
