Undergraduate Courses
Students on all degree programmes begin their study of economics with the Preliminary course in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. In subsequent years, depending on the degree programme, they take a combination of Core and Optional courses. Options for the final year include the opportunity to write a thesis.
Teaching for each course includes a series of sixteen or more lectures covering essential topics, but students are expected to go beyond this material by reading widely. Students will also have a set of tutorials in groups of two or three, and/or small classes of six to ten students, for which preparatory work - reading and written work – is set. Written work for economics tutorials includes both essays and problems, which are handed in and marked by the tutor. Tutorials provide an opportunity to develop a deeper appreciation of the subject with the individual guidance of an expert tutor.
