Calculators for Examinations in Economics
Candidates may use a calculator in any university examination in economics, but there is a limited list of permitted types.
In 2011-12 candidates will be permitted to take into the examination room one calculator of the types listed below:
- CASIO fx-83
- CASIO fx-85
- SHARP EL-531
No other calculators will be permitted into the examination room.
Please note:
- Each type of calculator listed above may have several specific models (which are introduced and discontinued fairly rapidly), which are denoted by an additional suffix e.g. CASIO fx-83MS. All such models are permitted so long as they clearly belong to one of the permitted types
- The restriction on the use of calculators applies to examinations only. For all project and tutorial work, you are free to use any calculator.
- You are encouraged to buy one of the permitted calculators early.
- The permitted list will be reviewed annually as new types are introduced or old types are discontinued. It is hoped that types can be retained on the list long enough that you need only buy one such calculator during the course.
