Oxford's Economics Department caters for more than a thousand undergraduate and visiting undergraduate students taking a wide variety of courses in Economics. There is no single Honours degree in Economics at Oxford, but students may read for one of five joint degrees involving Economics.

Economics & Management

The E&M degree is run jointly by the Economcis Department and the Said Business School.  In the first year, students take 3 courses: Introductory Economics, General Management and Financial Management.  In the second and third years, they take the core courses in economics, and 6 options, including at least two management options.

B.A. (Hons.) in Philosophy, Politics & Economics

Philosophy, Politics and Economcs

The PPE degree is run jointly by the Philosophy Faculty and the Politics and Economics Departments.  In the first year, students take an introductory course in each of the three subjects.  In the second and third years, they take eight courses in total, including core courses in at least two of the three subjects.

M.Eng. in Engineering, Economics & Management

M.Eng. in Engineering, Economics & Management

EEM is a 4 year course and is run jointly by the Department of Engineering Science and the Economcis Department.  Although it is a joint course,it is primarily an engineering course, with around two-thirds in engineering. It is possible to apply for direct admission to the course, but you can leave the decision to study EEM until after the first-year examinations, provided your college offers EEM and gives permission for the transfer (see Which colleges offer my course?, St John’s also allows transfers in the 2nd year).

M.Eng. in Materials, Economics & Management

M.Eng. in Materials, Economics & Management

MEM is taught by the Department of Materials, the Department of Economics and the Said Business School, all of which enjoy outstanding international reputations. The Department of Materials has excellent teaching facilities, including a computer room for students and a well-stocked library. Students learn to work together in team design projects, and they develop IT and presentation skills. Demand for graduates of this challenging course is exceptionally high. The degree is accredited at MEng level by the Engineering Council.
