Research Interests

Summary: Economics of inequality and poverty, undernutrition, human development, health.

Current researching theoretical, empirical and conceptual issues in health inequality. The economic approach to measuring inequality is adapted and developed for demographic concepts such as the life table and the survival curve which are used to estimate life expectancy. Empirical work on length-of-life distribution measures to generate a set of comparable estimates across countries and over time (including for France for each year during 1806-1995). Conceptual research on health equity and counterfactuals in health evaluation. Other research on the extent to which human resources for health matter in explaining health outcomes, and on what we know about global income inequality.
