Congratulations to Professor Peter Neary FBA who has been awarded a European Research Council Advanced Grant to work on a five year research project entitled “Superstar Firms in the Global Economy” starting in April 2012.

Advanced Grants are intended to support the very best research to be conducted in EU member states and associated countries. The ERC grants aim to promote substantial advances at the frontiers of knowledge, and to encourage new

productive lines of enquiry and new methods and techniques. This funding scheme targets researchers who have already established themselves as being independent research leaders in their own right and who would like to pursue frontier research of their choice. In his research, Peter aims to develop a new theoretical framework which recognizes the important role of large ‘superstar’ firms in international trade while also allowing for entry of new firms and for interactions between sectors.
