Best dissertation award

Congratulations to Roberto Bonfatti who received the award for best dissertation at the 2010 Dissertation Competition of The International Society for New Institutional Economics. Roberto is a member of OxCARRE and a Junior Research Fellow in Economics at St John’s College. His thesis, titled “Three Essays on International Trade, Foreign Influence, and Institutions", concerns the relation between international trade and the relative power of those countries involved.

New Institute for Economic Modelling at Oxford

We are delighted to announce the establishment of a new research institute to be directed by Professor Sir David Hendry, Professorial Fellow at Nuffield College, and former head of the Department of Economics. The Institute is jointly funded by George Soros and James Martin who have each generously donated US$5million to fund the institute’s initial programme of research.

Oxonomics: Oxford University Economic Studies, promises to retain the rigour of academic research while exploring a wide range of economic issues, from the effects of high oil prices to the best ways to promote development in poor countries, to how an auction should be designed.
