The IZA Young Labor Economist Award 2011

Our congratulations to Johannes Abeler, who with co-authors, Steffen Altmann (IZA and Bonn University), Sebastian Kube (Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, Bonn University, and IZA) and Matthias Wibral (Institute for Empirical Research in Economics and the Center for Economics and Neuroscience, Bonn University, and IZA) has been awarded the Young Labor Economist Award 2011 on the decision of the IZA Program Directors for the paper entitled "Gift Exchange and Workers' Fairness Concerns: When Equality is Unfair, Journal of the European Economic Association (2010), 8(6): 1299-1324."
Peter Neary awarded ERC Advanced Grant

Congratulations to Professor Peter Neary FBA who has been awarded a European Research Council Advanced Grant to work on a five year research project entitled “Superstar Firms in the Global Economy” starting in April 2012.
Royal Economic Society Annual Conference - ‘Young Talent’

Congratulations to Andrew Zeitlin who is one of the three recent UK graduates invited to present their work at the “Young Talent” session of the Royal Economic Society Annual Conference to be held at the University of Cambridge on 26-28 March 2012. Andrew Zeitlin, currently a research officer at CSAE, uses theory-driven field and laboratory experimental methods, together with the collection of observational data, to study the microeconomic mechanisms of economic development.
Dr Johannes Abeler receives the CESifo Distinguished Affiliate Award

Our congratulations to Dr Johannes Abeler who received the CESifo Distinguished Affiliate award for his paper entitled "Fungibility, labels and consumption". During the CESifo Annual Area Conferences, the Committee for the CESifo Prize grants the Distinguished CESifo Affiliate award to a young economist for the scientific originality, policy relevance and quality of exposition of his/her paper presented at the conference. The selection committee comprises three renowned scholars from the area in question and is chaired by the Co-ordinator of the respective Research Area. Dr Sophocles Mavroeidis awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize in Economics

Our congratulations to Sophocles Mavroeidis who has been awarded a prestigious Philip Leverhulme prize for his contributions to econometrics and empirical macroeconomics. Sophocles works on developing and applying methods for testing macroeconomic theories using available economic data.
Inauguration of the Andrew Glyn Professorship, University of Massachusetts

The Andrew Glyn Professorship has been created at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) to honour the life work of Andrew Glyn who taught economics at Oxford for 38 years until his untimely death in 2007. Funded by a gift from an anonymous donor and a matching fund established by the Provost at the University, the position is to be housed jointly in the Department of Economics and the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI). The Inauguration of the Andrew Glyn Professorship and Recognition of Professor Léonce Ndikumana as the first Andrew Glyn Professor of Economics will be held on Monday, 7th November 2011. Regional Studies Association awards 2011

‘Economic linkages across space’ by Henry Overman (LSE), Patricia Rice and Tony Venables has been given the Regional Studies Association award for the best paper in Regional Studies, 2010-11. Voted for by the editors of Regional Studies. Details of the award can be found on the RSA website.
Paul Klemperer to give British Academy Keynes Lecture 13 October

This year's prestigious Keynes Lecture at the British Academy will be given by Professor Paul Klemperer on; "Creating Competition: New Auctions for Public Policy". The lecture will discuss new auctions, including those now running at the Bank of England, as well as other potential applications. Date and Location: Thursday 13 October, 6pm at British Academy. In the Financial Times ranking of pre-experience finance masters programmes published on 20 June 2011, the MSc in Financial Economics (MFE) programme was ranked top in the UK and fourth globally.
