M.Phil. - Thesis
Introduction
It is usual to explore possible topics with a supervisor in the Trinity Term of the first year. If a topic is defined by the end of that term, a good deal of work can be done on it during the Long Vacation. In any case, it is essential to devote a substantial part of the Long Vacation to work to the subject area of the thesis. Preliminary drafts will be written and discussed with the thesis supervisor during the Michaelmas Term. The writing of the actual thesis will often be done during the Christmas Vacation continuing into the Hilary Term. Sometimes a good deal of final work is done in the following vacation, but it is unwise to plan to complete the thesis after the end of March. The submission date is fixed and allowances must be made for normal risks - discovering errors at the last minute, etc.
